Drum roll please...

The competition was tough...our hearts were beating out of our chests, sweat was trickling down our backs, our mouths were going dry, our hands were clammy...okay, that was me and Kyle was cool as a cucumber, but the results were the same...drum roll please -- the winners of the Sunset Division Table Topics (impromptu speaking) and the Humorous Speech contests are....[imagine drum roll sound here]...Kyle and Steve! -- A REPEAT from our Area 91 contest two weeks ago. I gave my "Freedom Traveler" speech after tweaking it here and there and Kyle had to respond to the following question -- "Getting a tattoo at 18 years old can be a right of passage for teenagers nowadays...image you are 18 years old...what tattoo would you get and why?" Kyle hit one out of the park. I was the last speaker and was quite nervous, but once I gave my first line...it was (mostly) smooth sailing from there. Contests are all about stretching yourself beyond your comfort zone and learning...this was a great night, not because we won our contests, but because we stretched ourselves and had fun! So, the next time you have an opportunity to try something new and challenge yourself...do it...the worst thing that can happen is you LEARN something :) Kyle and I's last stop on this speech contest road will be in Eugene, OR on November 17th at the District 7 Contest (Pictured here - Top: Kyle and Steve with their bling, bling / Bottom: Kyle, Sheila and Steve...Sheila was the Toastmaster (aka meeting emcee) for the contest).
